This project was very fun but also surprisingly challenging. It started out by rolling a slab of clay and cutting it to the size of a plate. Once we let it dry for a few days we glazed it with the desired colors. After the glaze dried we put a stencil on the plate and scraped out the outline of the design. Once we were done scraping out the outline we began to carve the inside of the outline to create a pattern without glaze. Once that was finished we used a clear coat of glaze to seal the scratched out part, put it in the kiln, and were finished. i really liked the outcome of my plate i feel like it turned out better then i thought it would. i do wish i centered my stencle better because it came out overlapped on some parts.

For this clay project, we got some really high quality clay and made a sort of pinch pot out of it. We were able to creatively design it however we wanted to. I chose to add a rim along the edges because I thought it looked cool. Once we had the desired shape of our bowls we decided what metallic glaze we wanted, we were able to choose two so I chose a base coat and then a color to drip along the rim of the bowl. We let them sit a few days and dry out, then we brought them to the kiln and did a special firing where while the bowl was glowing hot we put it in a trash can full of sawdust and closed the lid so it ate up all the oxygen. Once it was cool enough we moved them from the cans to a water bucket where they finished cooling down. My favorite part of the project was watching them get fired and seeing what cool designs they came out with. I feel like I could have chosen my colors better because I feel like the outcome of the bowl would look cleaner.
This project was so much fun to build and detail. I'm really glad I did well, and I am very proud of my work, but it wasn't easy. First off we had to cut out shapes using stencils and a flattened out piece of clay, it was really important we got the clay cut at the right shape or else the pieces wouldn't fit together. Then we got an angle cutter and sliced some sides of the side pieces off so they would fit together around the base and top. Once we blended everything together and got it all smooth, we used a paper cup to put where the connecting piece would go and then pressed it in to make an indent. We then cut the lid off at an angle so it wouldn't slide around. Once the lid was off we cut a popsicle stick into shapes and used them to make a pattern around the edge of the box and the top. We also made feet for the box using popsicle sticks and the paper cup. Once everything was baked for the first time I chose my glazes, baked it again and I was finished.
I absolutely loved this project and I really put a lot of effort into it. It took a lot of attempts to get the structure of the design to work and then once I put it all together I added detail along. lots of parts of this project were not finished how i originally designed them to be but i am so so happy with the results. The hardest part of this project was without a doubt the records. I spent so much time putting together the microdetails of this piece that I finished way later than I should have but in my opinion it was definitely worth it. I loved this project every step of the way.
This was such a fun project, but definitely my most difficult. We started with choosing an animal to create out of clay, I chose a fennec fox, and choosing a few reference photos to go off of. Then we get a huge lump of clay and just start molding it into an animal-like shape. Once we had the shape we started taking it away and adding onto the sculpture to make it more realistic. A problem I ran into early on was because it was on three legs the weight was uneven, and it kept falling over, and the legs broke apart easily. I also made it too short, so I had to take it away from the base and add it to the legs. Once I had the build of my fox I began adding the face and fur texture. Once I added the fur I felt that my creation really came to life. It took a lot of work but in the end I am so happy with how my fennec fox came out.
this project was super fun and went by way too quick. it was exiting for me to get to use the wheel and i thought that i was going to ablolutly get it right away, but i didnt it took quite a bit to understand. however once i got the hang of it i made 4 bowls and one teeny tiny mug. the ones in the picture were my favorite. i loved getting to learn new ways to not just form the bowls but to also get them smooth and then glazed. the glaze we used was super cool because they had small shards of different colors that when melted with the liquid glaze made super pretty designs. this project was super fun and im glad i got to learn how to make pottery.
this project was very interesting to say the least. i really enjoyed it but it was not easy. to start off we got a branch, stick, or just a piece of wood to build off of. then we got some reeds and figured out a design we wanted to use. for mine i just kind of free styled it. once we had the reeds in we would glue the paper in the places we wanted it. once everythign was set in place we used a starch to lock in the paper and finaly added out lightbulb. i thought that this project was very abstract and i enjoyed that a lot.
i definatly bit off more then i could chew for this project but i am still so happy with how it turned out. we started with brainstorming what we wanted our vase to look like. this included shape and decorations. i chose a simple looking vase but with an octopus on the side. it was difficult getting the vase started but after i figured it out it was really easy to get it done. once i had the vase smoothed out and even i started on the octopus. i had a week less then everyone else and so i was running behind in both wet clay and then glazing. once i had gotten the octopus assembled, hollowed, and the final details finished it was ready to be fired. for the glazes i chose the chunky high fireing ones because i liked the way that the diferent colors would work together as well as how the texturing would turn out. im really happy with the final project and how it turned out.
