Introduction to Studio Art

Creative Lines Project

The creative lines project was the first project I've had this year. I used nine of the lines provided to make this theme. This project was hard for me personally because you had to think outside of the box and make a creative story out of it. My story was a carnival based theme. Also it was very fun to see what others had made of their lines and the stories they were telling.

Hand Drawing Project

Our second project was the hand drawing project. This project was challenging but also simple. The first thing we did for this project was take a picture of our hand and look at it then double it on this large white piece of paper. With this project I had learned to have a lot of patience. It takes a long time to complete and a lot of focus.

Insect Painting

In this assignment we were to paint an insect. So I picked a butterfly because of the many colors to work with. This project takes a lot of time and a lot of color mixing and blending and getting the exact shade you want. This project was really hard to get precise and nice and sharp or curvy perfectly. To get the butterfly and flowers the way I wanted.

Clay Bowl Project

This project was a challenge at first because you expect the lines and curves to be exact on the bowl when you first start, since the coils were so thick I had to think about placement. The first thing we did was wrap a plastic bowl in paper towels and draw out the design I want once I was done with that I waited for it to dry and we took the clay off the bowl. I glazed it and Mr. Langmaack put it in the kennel and it was done. This project was one that required a lot of patience.

Clay Jar Project

This project was after the bowl project, it was easier than the bowl. First you got a block of clay and messed around with getting the shape you wanted. After I had the shape I wanted I started to carve out the inside of the bottom part leaving a crayon size width on the inside of the walls. Once I did that I started on the lid and did the same thing. After that I glazed it white and fired it in the kennel and it was done. This project took a lot of hand work on getting the shape other than that this project was a fun one!

Clay Whistle

After the jar project we got into making this whistle. It was pretty easy for me than the other clay projects. We had to figure out the air ways to make the whistle and be careful on where we poke the hole for this whistle to work.I made the feet and carved little lines to make it more realistic. Then the little tail and carved squares into the shell. After that I glazed it two different greens and did the eye whites white and the pupils black.

Water Color

For this project we had to select a underwater creature. First we started off with the background color. I chose a light blue and I tried not to put the blue everywhere so that the white would show. Then I started on the jellyfish making it a light yellow then going little by little with orange colors. After the water-coloring was all done I took a black pen and outlined some parts to show shadows and different textures.

Spot the Difference

In the spot the difference project we had to have a photo and change it. My partner and I had different tasks to do. I chose to delete stuff and make it look normal. In this project you would try to spot the differences in the picture or try to figure out what was missing or what colors changed.

Tell a 3D Story

After the spot the difference project we had a different project but since we are in a quarantine Mr. Langmaak had to come up with a different idea of how to do art from home. He came up with the idea of using items from home and telling a story with them. Mine is about going inner tubing. I used magazines, Popsicle sticks, cups, rubber bands and paperclips to create this. I learned how to think of how to incorporate things into this project and details I could add to make it look good.
