2D Art

Self Portrait

This project was really fun and I haven't done anything like this before. Honestly when we started I didn't think that I was going to be able to do it, but it turned out a lot better than I thought it would. Although I do think it looks better in person than on camera. For this project we used 4 different pencils, blending stumps, and electric erasers. It was fun to learn how to do all the different shading and stuff because I didn't know how to do that before. My favorite part of this project are the eyes because I think that they look good. I think this was a good starting project and will help me to do even better at the projects that we do in the future.

Food Painting

I chose to paint a dragon fruit because I didn't think anyone in the class had done one yet, but it was a lot harder than I expected to get the texture and color right. In doing this painting, I learned how to apply texture with paint and how to make a painting expressive instead of just trying to make it look exactly like the painting. The goal of this project was to make an expressive painting of food, and I think I somewhat accomplished it. I think this painting turned out okay but not as good as I hoped it would, it was just hard to make the texture and coloring accurate. I will definitely try and paint again in the future.

Animal Scratch Art

By doing this project, we learned how to create art with a piece of black paper and an exacto knife. We learned how important it is to make note of things like texture and direction, but ultimately you can't think about it too much and you just have to go with it. The goal of this project was to use scratch art to create a realistic picture of an animal. This project was harder than I thought it was going to be, and I think it could of turned out better, because I didn't really get the hang of the technique until the end of the project. This project was super fun and I will definitely keep doing scratch art in the future.

Architectural Watercolor

In this project we chose a picture that we wanted to paint and did our best to paint it with watercolors. I chose a picture of Cinque Terre, because I went there in the middle of painting this. While doing this painting we learned the importance of layers and precision when it comes to painting with watercolors. This project was pretty challenging for me and unfortunately it didn't turn out as well as I hoped. It did help me to realize that watercolor wasn't my favorite, but hopefully I can keep doing watercolor and improve my skills.

Transportation Colored Pencil

For this project we picked a form of transportation that we wanted to recreate with colored pencils. We learned how to have the drawing burnished so the paper texture wouldn't show through, and how to do chrome. I chose this car because it was my dad's in high school that he totaled so I wanted to give it to him for his birthday. This was actually one of my favorite projects and I really liked the way it turned out. I will definitely keep using colored pencil in the future.
