Introduction to Studio Art

Hand with Tool Drawing

This drawing is based off of a real picture I took of my hand. The hardest part was sketching the whole picture and making sure the measurements were to scale. My absolute favorite part was the shading and blending. I even got a little sad when I was finished with this piece because the process was very therapeutic for me. During the start of this drawing, I had very low expectations for what the outcome would be. But this drawing, although very difficult, was a lot easier to accomplish than I anticipated.

Nine Line Drawing

This drawing was based off of nine random lines and I made my own interpretation of what kind of picture to draw out of them. Thinking of what to draw was the hardest part because I had to push my brain to think more creatively. I now have a better understanding on how to properly use colored pencils because of this drawing.

Insect Painting

This painting is inspired by a picture of a monarch butterfly I found on the internet. When I first started this painting I was scared that I was going to hate the way it turned out since I've never worked with acrylic paint before. But to my surprise, I really enjoyed working with acrylic paint and this is one of my favorite art pieces. I learned lots of new things about how acrylic paint works and I'm excited to work with it again in the future.

Clay Whistle

This clay whistle has definitely been the most difficult assignment in this class so far. Getting the clay into the perfect shape so it makes a whistling noise was my biggest struggle. But through lots of trial and error, I think I know the right way to make a clay whistle. My favorite part was glazing the clay because it took little effort.

Watercolor Painting

I was really scared to start this painting. I had never worked with water color before and didn't really know what I was doing. The background was the easiest and most fun part because it allowed me to be more free. The hardest part to do was the shark's gums because it took a lot of layers. I enjoyed watercolor a lot more than I anticipated and am excited to try it again in the future.
