This year I had the pleasure of switching into 3D Art, and even though I started a bit behind, I was still able to create something I’m really proud of—a tea bowl made completely from clay with my own two hands LOL! That’s still kind of mind-blowing to me because I’ve never imagined myself actually being able to shape raw clay into a finished piece. The process was challenging at first since I wasn’t totally confident about all the steps, but with some patience (and a lot of help from Mr. Langmack and my table partners), I was able to figure it out and stay on track. One of my favorite parts of the whole project was choosing from the different glazes. Each one looked so unique and cool in its own way, and it felt like picking a personality for my bowl. I decided on a white base with hand-painted flowers, but unfortunately, I don’t think I applied enough layers for the flowers to really shine through. Instead, they ended up looking more like stains or imperfections, which was a little disappointing. Still, I like to think it gives the bowl some character. Overall, I’m really happy with how the tea bowl turned out, especially considering I started this class a little behind everyone else. This project taught me not only about clay and glazing, but also about patience, and just letting go of perfection. Can I get an Amen on that or what??
