Bringing Noises Off to Life

Coming up this November, the Clarence High School Drama Club’s production of Noises Off will be taking the stage. This “play within a play,” centered around the goings on behind the scenes of the show, is a rich comedy with three acts. One actress, Bella Zinno, describes the play as “a chaotic, funny, disorganized mess.” In Noises Off, the actors play distinct characters, ranging from a ditzy young woman to an egotistical director. The show begins with the characters rehearsing for their own play, called Nothing On. However, the actors struggle to put together their own play, forgetting lines, missing props, and creating drama between themselves. Throughout the three acts, the point of view shifts between showing the show falling apart and the behind-the-scenes.
Featuring a nine-person cast, the actors in Noises Off continue to work incredibly hard putting together a high-quality show. Alex Meister, one of the actors, says, “The most fun part has to be seeing everything for the first time and not understanding a single thing, and then figuring everything out and making the show come to life.” With rehearsals many days after school, memorization, and creating a rotating set, both the directors and students have put time and effort into creating something to bring people joy.
Although still a work in progress, the finished show will be making its debut on the CHS stage this November. You can come see the production on November 20, 21, and 22, in the high school auditorium at 7 pm. Brynn Jalal, another actress, says, “I think that people will really like seeing the behind-the-scenes portrayal of what happens when putting on a chaotic show, and the great comedic timing.”
