Following a summer with new hit movies, the rest of this year has the shoes of giants to fill after James Gunn’s Superman (2025) and Marvel’s (directed by Matt Shakman) Fantastic Four: First Steps hit theaters with large commercial successes. It brought us a remake of the classic Lilo and Stitch in live-action, a seemingly common trend in Disney’s current productions, as well as the second adaptation of the children’s comic The Bad Guys 2, directed by Pierre Perifel and originally written by Aaron Blabey. Mainly, taking the media and Billboard 100 by storm was KPop Demon Hunters, which featured famous groups like TWICE, climbed and stayed on the leaderboard for record amounts of time with hit songs such as “Golden” and “Soda Pop”. Accompanied by stunning animation and relatable main characters, it ended the summer with a 4.7-star audience rating and a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Most anticipated this fall season is Wicked: For Good, directed by Jon M Chu, the second part of the recreation of the already famous musical, fans stuck clinging to the cliffhanger of Cynthia Erivo’s famous riff. Originally starring Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth, the roles of Elphaba Thropp and Glinda Upland are now reprised by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in a completely faithful adaptation to the original production, featuring the same songs and plot as its predecessor. Part two, however, promises two new songs, including “No Place Like Home”, which will be performed by the duo, and “The Girl in the Bubble”, which will be performed by Ariana Grande, both written by Stephen Schwartz.

Daniel Craig (famously known for playing James Bond) will also reprise his role as Benoit Blanc in the third Knives Out movie, Wake Up Dead Man. After the debut of the first movie, Knives Out, it followed up with the even more successful and witty Glass Onion, a humorous murder mystery staged on a private island. The third movie promises a much darker twist, returning to more gothic tones of classic murder mysteries, very much so, a twist from the tropical air of Glass Onion. With a star-studded cast, it has already received a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, coming to theaters on November 26th and to Netflix on December 12th.
Disney will also be bringing Zootopia 2 as well as Tron: Ares to theaters. Zootopia 2 will pick up with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde chasing after a new character, a snake who doesn’t quite fit in with the mammalian population. It will come to theaters on November 26th, accompanied by both new and returning stars like Ke Huy Quan and even Shakira, who, with Ed Sheeran, has made a new song for the movie. Tron: Ares is a direct sequel to Tron: Legacy, where humankind will meet AI beings for the first time, Ares traveling to the human world instead of a human entering the digital realm this time. Accompanied by music written by members of Nine Inch Nails and a $150 million budget, it will land in theaters on October 10th, directed by Joachim Rønning.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will also join the others in theaters, following Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of the Water (2022), all directed by James Cameron. With the original movie’s budget of $237 million, it will surpass that with a $250 million budget and a three-hour and twelve-minute run time. Go to the bathroom before you sit down and get a large popcorn. Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington will return as Neytiri and Jake Sully as the family encounters another Na’vi tribe, unfamiliar and aggressive. It will be released on December 19th, just before the winter solstice and closing out the fall season.
For more Halloween movies, many are returning as limited engagement at Regal, like Casper for its 30th anniversary and the Twilight saga, along with many more classics. Other movies such as Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man and Howl’s Moving Castle will also be back in theaters for limited engagement - accompanying these new movies on their ways back into the theatre.
