Girls Swim Team Faces Kenmore in First Meet of the Season

The start of fall sports is in motion, and the Clarence varsity girls' swimming and diving team is ready for another great season. After losing 10 seniors, the 20-person roster wonders who will lead the team in scoring. This year, the team has 4 seniors: Natalia Ashworth, Evey McGee, Morgan Oddy, and Bella Zinno. As well as juniors, Ava Amuso, Ainslee Graham, Aschour Nila, Elly Panus, and Taylor Yeung. Also underclassmen are Isabella de Ameida, Adeline Eustice, Toni Paul, Laila Ragab, Paige Collins, Eliana Goldman, Mary Harvey, Calista Viljoen, and Maddie Yacos. Lastly, two 8th graders are joining the team, Serafina Alessi and Anna Paragh. Head Coach Micheala Morgus and Assistant Coach Tom Steuer, along with diving Coach Kelly Neff, are very excited for this season to begin.
To start off the swim season, the Clarence Varsity girls swim team faced Kenmore at home. The girls' Team got off to a start, coming in 1st place (Clarence A relay, N. Ashworth, A. Paragh, M. Yacos, and E. Panus) and 2nd place (Clarence B relay, C. Viljoen, T. Yeung, T. Paul, P. Collins) in the 200 medley Relay. In the 200 Free, Maddie Yacos finished 2nd with a time of 2:18.42, which got her a spot in Class A. Along with Elly Panus in 3rd place at 2:24.42, scoring 3 points for the Girls Team! In the 200IM, Natalia Ashworth qualified for sectionals with a time of 2:22.55. Taylor Yeung followed with a time of 2:48.74. Up Next in the 50 free, for the Varsity Girls, Maddie Yacos and Paige Collins finished 1st and 2nd place. Next in the Girls 1 Meter 6 dives, Ainslee Graham scored first with 241.42 points and Senior Morgan Oddy scored 131.18 points for 3rd place. In the 100 butterfly, Senior Natalia Ashworth finished first while also qualifying the Class A cut at 1:06.76. Additionally, Isabella de Almeida finished with a Person Best with the time 1:48.13. In the 100 breaststroke, 8th grader Anna Paragh finished 1st place with a time of 1:14.52 and qualified for Class A. Towards the end of the meet, the Girls A relay (M. Yacos, E. Panus, A. Paragh, and N. Ashworth) finished 1st in the 400 Free relay and also qualified for Sectionals with a time of 4:04.52.
The Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving team, Natalia Ashworth and Ainslee Graham are the team leaders. Natalia Ashworth is a Senior this year at Clarence and has been swimming since she was 8 years old. This year, she hopes to make it to States while also supporting her teammates. Ainslee Graham is the diving captain and has been diving since she was 7 years old. Graham's goal this year is to challenge herself to break the 6-dive record.
