The Clarence girls' varsity soccer team kicked off their season with a 5-1 record. Facing many tough opponents in the first few weeks of their season, the girls have shown how tough and resilient they can be.
One of their toughest teams the girls have played so far was Orchard Park. Clarence was able to get ahead quickly and play amazing defense and offense to get them the win. Ellie Ladelfa had two goals. Mia Hurley and Jules Heer each had one goal as the girls pulled out an amazing 4-0 victory.
Unfortunately, early in their season, the Red Devils did suffer a 1-0 loss against Frontier. The game was held close for a while, and despite Clarence pulling out all of their stops to try and tie up the game, they were just not able to squeeze out the win. Luckily, they have a chance for redemption in a few weeks.
In the 2024 season, the girls made a terrific run all the way to states. With losing some of those very important starters and the gain of some younger players, the team is still testing things out.
Captain and starting goaltender for the team, Breanna Hurley, commented on how the team is looking, "Transitioning from year to year is hard. We lost some key players, and now we have to fill those spots. I believe that we can go just as far as we did last year and make it to states again if we keep playing together like we are now.”
The upcoming couple of weeks will really test the girls, with a nonleague game against Hilton, and then Orchard Park on Thursday. These games will prove just how strong and capable this team is, and hopefully they will make a far postseason run.
