Fall is known for many things: pumpkin spice, falling leaves, and the iconic Gilmore Girls. The show premiered on October 15, 2000, and has only grown since then. The thousands of followers have shown their pride through everything from TikTok sounds to t-shirts. In 25 years, the Gilmore girls have created a legacy of endless coffee and chaos.
The TV show tells the story of the Gilmore girls as they navigate the challenges of growing up and forming relationships. Unlike other shows of the time, it focuses on the relationship between a mother and daughter: Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her daughter, Lorelai “Rory” Gilmore (Alexis Bledel). It also highlights their relationship with the original Gilmore, Emily (Kelly Bishop). The three form a complicated relationship centered on friendship, judgment, and unconditional love. While they are all going through different stages of life, they guide each other through obstacles, boyfriends, and the quirky town of Stars Hollow.
Although the focus is on mother-daughter relationships, many fans passionately debate over which boyfriend is the most suitable for each character. It has been unanimously decided that Luke is the only correct choice for Lorelai, but Rory brings up more of a discussion. Dean is Rory’s first love, but overly jealous and a walking red flag. While he starts as a chaotic bad boy, Jess has a soft spot for Rory and ends up giving her exactly what she needs: WHY DID YOU DROP OUT OF YALE?! Last is the charming and spontaneous boy with a trust fund, Logan Huntzberger. Some are better than others, but they all brought something to the table and taught Rory the lessons she needed.
Recently, the Gilmores reunited at the 2025 Emmys to present the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Their speech gave a nod to Gilmore Girls and everything that went into making it. Through seven seasons, four revival episodes, and lots of coffee, Gilmore Girls has taken over fall and our hearts, proving that the charm and comfort will never go out of style. So the real question is, are you team Dean (no!), Jess, or Logan?
