Annual National Events

Each year, Pre-SOMA hosts a minimum of four major events that are open to our members. In addition, the Pre-SOMA Directors and Committee have additional projects planned that vary from year to year. But our members can always look forward to the following events each year!

Pre-SOMA Spring Convention & D.O. Day on Capitol Hill

Date: Spring Semester

Each year, Pre-SOMA hosts Spring Convention in conjunction with National SOMA in Washington, D.C. Spring convention is an excellent opportunity to network with other pre-medical students, medical students, and Osteopathic leaders. Programming consists of guest speakers, workshops, a service project, a hands-on OPP event, socials, and networking opportunities. Additionally, hundreds of osteopathic medical students and physicians attend the AOA's D.O. Day on Capitol Hill, where they advocate for the Osteopathic profession and patients to legislators. Pre-SOMA members are encouraged to attend D.O. Day and participate in meetings with their state representatives.

ShaDO Week

Date: Spring Semester

Pre-SOMA’s ShaDO Week is an opportunity for undergraduate students to explore and learn more about Osteopathic medical schools, either in-person or virtually. Students have the opportunity to shadow current osteopathic medical students, tour campuses, hear from admissions, and so much more. You may also be given the opportunity to attend a lecture, an OMM lab, and so on! Agendas vary from school to school. 

Pre-SOMA at OMED

Date: Fall Semester

Each year, OMED is the world’s largest osteopathic medical conference open to practicing physicians, residents, medical and pre-medical students. During this conference, Pre-SOMA has an entire program planned out specifically for pre-medical students! In past years, our lectures, given by various speakers, ranged from MCAT study preparation, osteopathic medical school application guides, interview tips, OMM demonstrations, resume workshops, and much more. Pre-SOMA also offers travel scholarships for this truly awesome event.

National Osteopathic Night Out

Date: Fall Semester

Pre-SOMA knows that preparing yourself for medical school can be a daunting process. To help deal with this, Pre-SOMA offers a chance to meet with current SOMA medical students to answer all your medical school-related questions. As mentorship is critical to Pre-SOMA, we aim for this to be a fun and casual chance for you to grab a cup of coffee (or two) with our members at a local cafe and chat about whatever it is you’d like to know.
