What is a Dragon Dance?
The Dragon Dance (龙舞, long wu) has a history dating back to the Han Dynasty in 200 CE. It began as a ceremony to worship ancestors and pray for rainfall. As years passed, the dance became more of a form of entertainment, especially during the Chinese New Year.
There are a few different types of dragons that have different jobs, in a way.
The Celestial Dragon guards the gods, the Dragon of Hidden Treasures guards treasures, the Earth Dragon controls waterways, and the Spirit Dragon controls the rain and wind .
During the Dragon Dance, the team mimics the fluid movements of the dragon following the leader, who carries the "Pearl of Wisdom" The dancers are accompanied by drums and gongs which are said to scare evil spirits away.

Period 5 Chinese 4 performed the Dragon Dance around the school! They walked through the hallways, into classrooms, and performed a routine in the cafeteria. You can see the dancers holding the dragon following the person with the Pearl of Wisdom.

Spring Pancakes - Said to be a "bite into spring," eaten to express good wishes for a good harvest in the months to come.
Bamboo Shoots - As the weather gets warmer, people go up the mountains in search of shoots. They are full of vitamins and amino acids.
Spring Tea - Made with the first few batches of tea leaves picked in the spring, this tea has more nutrients than normal tea and is extremely coveted!

Places to see + Helpful Tips when traveling
The temperature steadily increases- As the season progresses, the weather gets warmer and rainfall increases slightly; there are frequent days of high wind.
What to wear - Layers! There are obvious temperature differences between day and night, so if you are out and about well past dark, layering is your best friend.
Places to Go - Flowers are in bloom all over the country, but the best places to see them are West Lake and Suzhou in Hangzhou.
