The Ocean formed billions of years ago. Planet Earth formed in a large amount of gasses, including oxygen combined with hydrogen (H20) to form water.
Ocean basins are large underwater basins in the ocean. They include mountain ridges in the ocean, deep-sea trenches, or linear fracture zones.
Earth's solid outer crust, also known as the upper portion of the earth's mantle. This area is also called the lithosphere.
Ocean sediment can be defined as little deposits particles that have accumulated on the seafloor. These are usually from rock/soil particles, brought into the ocean by wind or rivers.
Here, I made a video summary/presentation summarizing what we went over in this SLO. I used my notes from both lectures uploaded on canvas and the student presentations on ocean basins. I used the term "continental drift", but that's interchangeable with plate movement. Continental drift was a term coined by Wegener - the pangea researcher - but is now usually just referred to as plate movement.
