The observation is the beginning of this program before teacher practice. In this activity, I observed my CT (Coordinating Teacher) Ma'am Tadeo. She is a Biology Teacher, teaches grade 11 STEM in SLU Lab High School, handles 5 class from STEM I to STEM M. During the observation, I sit at the back of the class observed the class activity, teacher's and student's activity and also assisting in the laboratory activity.
Teaching Method
Based on my observations, the teaching method predominantly used in the classes is a teacher-centered approach. This approach is understandable due to the extensive content that requires detailed explanation. The lessons are primarily delivered through presentations at the front of the class, making effective use of the advanced technological tools provided by the school. To ensure students understand the material, the teacher consistently incorporates a question-and-answer session or an activity involving answering questions at the end of each lesson.
Learning Materials and Innovations
The learning materials used in the classroom are varied. These include a sliding whiteboard with colored markers, a smart TV for displaying PowerPoint presentations, instructional videos, visual aids, and a textbook.
Learning Resources
The resources for Biology and other science subjects include a General Science textbook and online materials. The teacher prepares a PowerPoint presentation one day in advance, along with printed laboratory activity sheets.
The presentation is concise, containing visuals such as images, tables, and key points from the lesson. The PowerPoint slides are shown on the smart TV in the classroom, while the lab activity sheets are printed and handed out to students for practical use.
Authentic Assessment
Assessment is typically conducted using paper-based methods, where students write their answers on paper, which is then collected and graded by the teacher. Additionally, the teacher assigns a final report in the form of a paper at the end of the 11th grade. This report involves designing a research project that students will carry out in the 12th grade.
