MEMORY AND LEARNING

WHAT IS MEMORY & BRAIN ?

WHAT IS MEMORY?

Memory refers to the psychological processes of acquiring, storing, retaining, and later retrieving information. There are three major processes involved in memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval. source

  1. Encoding - The five senses : Touch, hearing , sight, smell and taste

  2. Storage - 3 Types of memory :

  • Sensory Memory

  • Short Term Memory

  • Long Term Memory

WHAT IS BRAIN?

The brain is an organ that controls thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger and every process that regulates our body. source

THE THREE TYPES OF MEMORIES

  1. Sensory memory

The brain receives multiple sensory information from multiple body parts and organs, sensory memory doesn't last very long and in fact goes away almost instantly if ignored.

  1. Short Term Memory

Short Term Memory has also some similarity to sensory memory that it decays very quickly unless memorizing strategies is utilized such as rehearsal/ repetition activities.

  1. Long Term Memory

Long Term Memory is when Short Term Memories turns into a memory that can last up months and even years.
