Be Smart!

In an area where Kea are present, there are things that you can do to lessen your impact these birds.

  1. If you are hiking in the Alpine areas of New Zealand make sure that you pick up your trash, do not feed or interact with wildlife, do not bring harsh chemicals into the wildlife, and be smart with your methods of transportation (Departmant of Conservation,2021).

  2. The Alpine biome is very suseptable to human impacts due to its environmental fragility, so decreasing your carbon emissions will help preserve the ecosystem. Drive less cars, eat less meat, and use cleaner energy.

  3. Be mindful of regulations and laws by considering the impacts of nature.

  4. If you see something, say something! Protect what you love by writing to officials, signing petitions, and protesting against your local government.

  5. Watch what you buy! Less plastic means less litter in the world for curious Keas to ingest.

  6. Spread awareness! Send out petitions, use social media to your adavantage, share the links above with family and friends!

  7. Educate yourself- learn more about Kea by looking further into some of the sources we used in our glossary, or use your own!
