The Green Clean
The Green Clean project is initiated by a group of six students doing the 'Future Planet Innovation' minor at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. The project team contains a wide variety of expertise, including Ecology and Evolution, Spatial Planning, and even Psychology. This diverse mixture of backgrounds is the drive behind the incorporation of the triple bottom line, including People, Planet, and Profit aspects that are used as a backbone to tackle the problems the students faced during the process of the project.
The Green Clean project is a collaboration with project Het Groene Strand, a partnership between Stichting ANEMOON, Landschappen NL, Stichting Duinbehoud, IVN Natuureducatie, and Vogelbescherming Nederland, with the aim of bringing nature back to Dutch beaches. Project Het Groene Strand is made possible through funding courtesy of the Nationale Postcode Loterij. The Green Clean project seeks to be complementary to project Het Groene Strand in how new types of beach management techniques can be adjusted to the location it is trying to improve, as well as the ways how to make these techniques implementable by municipalities.
The Green Clean collaborates with project Het Groene Strand on behalf of Stichting ANEMOON. Stichting ANEMOON aims to give nature and nature experience its place on the beach. They want to increase the biodiversity of the Dutch beaches by creating space for unique plant- and animal species. They want to tackle the problem of intensive beach management. Together with their partnerships, Stichting ANEMOON is already doing a lot of work on the beaches within Het Groene Strand project. They set up beach communities where municipalities, volunteers, and locals are involved in the management of the beach, to make sure everyone works together and even more importantly everyone is heard. Furthermore, Stichting ANEMOON educates both children and adults to create awareness on topics such as pollution, the importance of biodiversity, and the beauty of nature. Last of all, Stichting ANEMOON performs research on the ecosystem at the beach, to gather important information which is needed for future plans to improve the harmony between mankind and nature.
