ESSENTIAL QUESTION #1--use YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS as examples in your writing: "HOW DID YOU UTILIZE COMPOSITION TO CREATE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS?" Describe and Explain
In this theme project, I utilized composition to create these photos in many ways. For instance, most of these photos were taken from an above angle, utilizing a bird's eye perspective. the bird's eye angle also allows me to control the light in a better manner. Many of my photos also used symmetrical balance in the sense that I used both shoes when taking the photo and when the photo was split in half, both sides of the photo had one shoe/ there was one shoe on each side of the photo. Another composition I used was a short depth of field. I used a short depth of field when I only wanted one shoe in focus and a blurred background to emphasize the shoe. I also used a short depth of field when taking photos for leading lines. In this project, I used short depth of field to emphasize the lines of the shoe to make it appear as though the lines were leading forward for an extended length. Another composition I used was framing. I used framing to again emphasize the shoe, specifically the converse logo/emblem. I also used asymmetrical balance in this project by placing two different shoes next to each other and utilizing a bird's eye perspective so that when the photo is split in half, two different shoes appear on each side of the photo/ the photo isn't mirrored. I used filling the frame by placing as many pairs of shoes as I could so that when the picture was taken, there would be little to no negative space left. Lastly, I used pattern by placing one converse next to a high heel shoe and another converse next to the previously mentioned heel, and then another heel placed next to the previously mentioned high heel shoe.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION #2--use YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS as examples in your writing: "HOW DID YOUR CONTROL LIGHT?" Describe and Explain
In most of these photos, I used indoor white lighting (recess lights, center kitchen light). To make these photos brighter, I paired them with a white background which reflects light, making the photos brighter. In addition, I also used a short depth of field f-stop and shutter speed to make the photo brighter in the dark lighting. In some of these photos, I also used flash to increase the brightness of the photos.
