One of the main skills addressed in the curriculum for lower primary in volume and capacity is the ability to order different containers in accordance to their volume. By using pictures students are able to identify which container would hold a greater capacity.
Students will learn to identify which pictured containers have the largest volume and order them from largest to smallest capacity. Can they correctly circle which container has the greatest capacity and can they number each shape from greatest to least in volume.
Circling largest capacity
In this activity students will complete two worksheets. The first is circling the container or object that would have the largest capacity and writing what you could put in each. The second is ordering each set of shapes from greatest (1) to least (3) amount of volume.
Critical thinking
In each of these tasks students need to use their knowledge of capacity and volume to determine the largest in each of the sets
Communication
Students are able to talk with each other to determine the greatest container in each set
Collaboration
If needed, students could work in pairs or small groups to identify the greatest volume container in each set
Creativity and Innovation
Students could utilise physical shapes and place them in order before writing in the numbers. They could also colour the containers that have the greatest capaticy
