Keeping all the data and information we collected from our primary and secondary research in mind, we have created the ideal solution to resolve the issue of low household recycling rates in Singapore.

Introducing ‘SWEET’ , a one of a kind app, offering a one-stop platform that educates, induces, and empowers individuals to recycle more. Through our product, we aim to establish a change in consumers' waste disposal habits. The app provides an attractive interface that is simple and easy to use, whilst boasting many exciting and enticing features.

PROTOTYPE

ENGAGING WITH THE PROBLEM

Our app is incredibly desirable with over 77% of individuals stating that our incentivised app would encourage them to recycle more. Not only that, but the app directly engages with the issue and breaks down the barriers that prevent Singaporeans from recycling.

Our app makes recycling trouble-free and effortless. The ‘SCAN’ feature makes recycling easy and provides users with information on how to recycle properly as well as the impact they make. The 'FIND A BIN' feature provides users with convenience and allows them to accumulate rewards when walking to the bin.

Our app also raises awareness, resolves the issue of lack of knowledge and cultivates environmental values. Clicking the Earth on the 'PROGRESS' Page allows users to see the effects of climate change on different parts of the world, encouraging them to play a part in achieving a more sustainable world. Moreover, our app allows users to truly grasp the recycling process via the 'JOURNEY' Page. This makes the process transparent and allows them to visualise their impacts directly.

Furthermore, the ‘Connect’ feature allows users to view the stats of their friends, family and loved ones and displays a leaderboard. This feature is extremely important as it will enact behavioral change and because research shows that Singaporeans are more likely to recycle if they see their communities do so.

Feasibility

Our app is exceptionally easy to use and requires no specific skills, with its simple interface. It is also implementable and accessible as it can be used by anyone with a smartphone, and it is scalable, with the potential of being released globally.

We also understood the importance of providing users with some form of subsidy in order to motivate them to use our app and initiate sustainable behaviour. Thus, we plan to partner with companies such as Grab, to provide monetary incentives such as vouchers, discounts and goodies to users. The more a user recycles (which is recorded via our 'Scan' feature), the more carbon emissions they save. Upon saving a certain amount of emissions, they will receive rewards which they can check using the 'Rewards' feature on the YOU page. This feature will ensure continued and prolonged use of the app and encourage individuals to recycle on a regular basis.

Viability

Our solution not only has the potential to succeed economically but it will also be profitable.

Our app will include in-app advertisements for other social enterprises, environmentally friendly products and other sustainable companies so as to align with our mission and introduce users to other ways they can make a difference.

Through our 'Shop Sustainable' feature we will also sell environmentally-friendly products that users can purchase directly through our platform. Additionally, other businesses and social enterprises will also be given the opportunity to sell their products through our app, for a small commission fee.

Not only that, we hope to procure funding during our initial phase from a wide range of sources such as the Singaporean government, which has a budget for sustainability initiatives, and The Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raisE).
