Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based discipline that focuses on ways to prevent and reverse chronic and lifestyle-related diseases through behavioural, environmental and social factors. Noncommunicable diseases are responsible for 71% of global deaths per year with many of these chronic conditions sharing common risk factors that are largely preventable or treatable. Through 6 pillars of health, Lifestyle Medicine aims to reduce chronic disease risk and improve long term global health.
“The application of environmental, behavioural, medical and motivational principles to the management of lifestyle-related health problems in a clinical and/or public health setting.” (Egger et al, 2017)
“Lifestyle medicine is NOT a non-pharmacological, alternative approach but rather an interdisciplinary, whole-system approach.” ~ Dr Sam Manger
