Elementary Tech Challenge 2019
What is ETC?
Elementary Tech Challenge, or ETC is a program run by the graduating team seniors each year. The program allows for 5th grade elementary students to learn how to break down a task into smaller parts, program a robot to solve each part, and communicate their ideas to a panel of judges made up of members of the High School Robotics Team and High School Engineering Program.
What are the 2019 challenges?
This year, we have three exciting challenges for our students to complete.
Skeeball
Students will use the Sphero Mini robot along with the Sphero EDU app to score points on a modified Skeeball track. Students will attempt to land their sphero in one of three rings on the floor by adjusting the drop ramp height, sphero speed, and motor run times. Points are awarded for accuracy.
Space Maze
Students will program their Finch robot to navigate a Maze autonomously. By learning about different types of sensors, students will be able to allow their robot to navigate freely without "hard coding" distance measurements into it.
Hungry Hungry Finches
Students will lay out a path for their Finch robot to follow on a grid. Points will be awarded for every beads that the robot rolled over. Be careful though, several squares will have negative points on them if crossed!
