Singapore's vanishing Old Trades

A HCI PROJECT

OUR RATIONALE

Due to modernisation and rapid development in Singapore, many old trades have lost their popularity due to their lack of competitiveness in the market. Many owners also face the challenge of finding successors. Therefore, many of these shops have closed down and old trades are starting to vanish. Through a survey done with Hwa Chong Institution High School students, many also have misconceptions about old trades. Lastly, these trades are part of our rich cultural heritage.

OUR OBJECTIVES

To advocate the importance of Singapore's old trades and to uphold this unique Singaporean heritage that is engraved in us. To allow students to appreciate the history and culture of old trades. Lastly, to clarify misconceptions about old trades.

Our Logo

The rattan chair in the middle is what we chose to symbolise our topic on Old Trades. This is because it is a product of rattan weaving, an Old Trade of Singapore. We chose blue with a little tint of turquoise for it symbolizes ethnic heritage and wholeness. This then perfectly represents how Old Trades are a very significant part of Singapore's heritage and history.
