Megan Frost is an artist born and raised in Southern California and currently lives in Huntington Beach, California. She has practiced art since she was young and has been taking art classes since 6 years old. Some of her work has been displayed both at the Huntington Beach Art Center and Golden West College. She has always used themes of emotion in her work but has recently explored realistic qualities in her newest Pet Portrait Series. She also hopes to pursue a career in graphic design after high school graduation.
The artwork I create is solely emotion based and consists of multiple mediums, but I also create a lot of pieces that include realistic qualities. Using different mediums allows me to experiment different possibilities in my art while also building new skills. I have a lot of fun trying new things and I do it most in my art.
Ever since I was little I've loved to draw and put my imagination on paper, whether it be a little doodle or an art project. I've always liked to imagine fantasy worlds and a multitude of possibilities for our own world. Once I have an idea set in mind I flesh it out on paper, canvas, or other mediums.Â
While I like to explore different concepts of fantasy I also like to include the real world in my work, Whether this be real world issues, concepts, or life itself. Learning about the what and what ifs about the world can be pretty upsetting. When I place those whats and what ifs in my work I find it therapeutic, and I normally display different forms of emotion to make any viewers of my work really think about what the artwork itself is trying to say. When I'm not using the negatives about the real world in my work, I like to draw one of my favorite things in the world: animals. I find joy in including every detail of an animal's features in order to capture the energy they have in real life. Creating art has always brought me joy and I hope to create lots more in the future.
To me, to be an artist means a multitude of things. Creating art has always been my main way of expressing my ideas, thoughts, and emotions when I'm unable to express them through words. I consider myself a person that feels emotions very deeply, so being able to express them in my work is very therapeutic. While I make a lot of artwork for myself, I do enjoy making it for other people. Seeing others enjoy the artwork I create makes the work itself all the more meaningful. However, I always make sure to continue to make artwork for myself in order to continue to express the emotions I feel. I believe as an artist it is very important to always continue to make artwork for yourself. I've noticed that while the process of making art for others can be very meaningful, it tends to eventually lead to feeling burnt out by making art because I'm making that art for others more than I'm making it for myself. I'm instead focusing on how the artwork will please others instead of focusing on what brings me joy when making art. This eventually leads to that burnt out feeling, and eventually the beginning of a loss of passion for making art. While making art for others is a main part of the art field when it comes to jobs, it is very important to remember what brings you joy when making art and make artwork for yourself in order to continue to pursue that passion.
