We began the start of our project by doing research on the history of the Salinas Valley and how it has come to be....
We decided to to take a look into the history of the area and see how these ideas have grown within our society. We have broken down the history into three parts: Origin, Post World War 2, and Modern. Our intent of this presentation is to provide the general public with accurate information that they may not have been taught through America's education system.
Our problem tree was an activity part of our background project. Through this project we brainstormed together and described important aspects of our research topic. The purpose of a problem tree is to help map out core/rooted issues, as well as their causes & effects, this can help with future planning and goals. Keep in mind, this tree is simply our shared knowledge, we are sure there is much more history to be told.
1st - The Roots. What are some of the roots, oppression, & history of colonialism & racism reflected in space/place? -- Take a look at the roots of the tree, all those blue labels.
2nd - The Leaves. What are some of the symptoms (what can we see, feel, and measure that tells us there's an issue) of colonialism & racism reflected through space/place? -- You will find all of the leaves of this tree are yellow.
3rd - The Trunk. The core. What has led to the symptoms of colonialism & racism reflected through space/place? What practices and policies? -- These core issues are seen as green.
