On April 22, 2023, I presented my research on the disproportionate effect of COVID-19 on African Americans at the 78th Annual Eastern New England Biological Conference at Simmons University. I spoke to a crowd of graduate students and professors, and I answered questions about the substance of my project.
As an invited lecturer, I was tasked with explaining the objectives of the research and its implications in healthcare. I advocated for an intense review of the long-term effects SARS-CoV-2 may have on distinct demographics within the United States.
On April 28, 2023, I demonstrated the research I performed with the Keating Schneider Experiential Learning Fund I received. The event was attended by various students and professors at Elms College, as well as by multiple individuals from the community. Utilizing a poster presentation, I was able to introduce my project to people of various educational backgrounds, from those with an abundance of knowledge in biology to those with less awareness in this area.
The Elms College Spring Experiential Learning Showcase gave me an opportunity to exercise my public speaking skills and also honed my ability to think quickly and critically. Answering questions on the fly based on the knowledge I've gained from my research enabled me to display my insight into this topic efficiently and professionally.
