Who was Poseidon? Poseidon was the god of the sea, water, horses, and even earthquakes. Most people consider him one of the most greedy gods but he is worshiped as a major god in the city of Athens. Because he's the god of the sea and water, he had many temples along the coast of Greece dedicated to him. Poseidon is known for his main attribute the trident and it was believed that if he stabbed his trident into the earth he could start an earthquake around him. According to Greek myths, it's said that only Zeus has more power than Poseidon. Due to how much power Poseidon had over the waters sailors had to pray to him for save travel when sailing.
