Baden-Württemberg is located in southern Germany, part of the southern German speaking world where dialect and tradition remain strong. It shares many traditions with its German speaking neighbors: Alsace, France to the west, Switzerland and Vorarlberg, Austria to the south.
Baden-Württemberg is more rural than central and northern Germany making it a popular destination for visiting natural spas or going on long hikes in its many old forests. The Danube, the Neckar and the Rhine are important rivers in the state. The highest mountain is the Feldberg (1492m). The Black forest, the Swabian Alb and the Lake Constance are world famous holiday regions.
