Rota MHS NJROTC - Drill Team
How do I become a part of the Drill Team?
To become a part of the drill team you must participate in the beginning of the year assessment/tryout. These tryouts occur usually the 4-5th week of school where our Drill Commander and SNSI/NSI inspect our barrings and overall performance while assessing these 'Drill' movements. So, the best way to become a part of the drill team is to practice stationary movements (if you are a newer cadet). These stationary movements include; right/left face, about face, dress right-dress, parade rest, etc. For a more experienced cadet (such as an NS-2+) we recommend that you practice stationary movements and marching movements. These marching movements include; forward march, colums, flanks, halt, eyes-right, to the rear, left/right steps, etc. The point of being a part of the Drill Team is to receive the opportunity to travel to either Germany/Italy to participate in the annual Drill Competition.
What is Drill Competition?
Drill Comp short for Drill Competition is the annual competition for the basic/advance movements that the Drill Team must complete. For us, these ceremonies are usually held in Naples Italy, or Germany.
Why should I join the Drill Team? / Is it worth it? / How can I benefit from it?
Joining the Drill Team is a highly rewarding experience that offers numerous benefits. It teaches discipline, structure, and attention to detail, which are essential skills both in the military and civilian life. The Drill Team emphasizes teamwork and leadership, helping you build strong communication and collaboration abilities which working closely with fellow cadets. Additionally, it promotes physical fitness and mental resilience, as drills require both focus and stamina.
