NHS and NJHS members contribute to their community and school by volunteering to help those in need and to lend a helping hand in the community and school.

NHS and NJHS members are required to complete 15 hours per semester (10 for NJHS) without compensation, outside of their family. Total of 30 (20 for NJHS) service hours per school year is required.

Ideas for completing Individual Service Hours:

NHS/NJHS members may volunteer their time for organized base organizations: Airman's Attic, Church Organizations, Aviano Booster Club, Command Events, Bazaar, Base Fall Fest, Base Winter Celebrations, Relay for Life, Charitable Organizations, Organized Tutoring through the school counselor, Breast Cancer Awareness, elementary school homework club etc.

Off base ideas: Animal Shelters, Group Homes, Churches, etc. (off base volunteering must be done with close supervision of your parents.)

Baby sitting maybe counted for service hours only when baby sitting is for an organizational function.

Guidelines

• Generally, when choosing where you want to volunteer your time, it is best to steer away from activities that directly benefit a member's family.
• Verification of service by asking for an adult's signature from a supervisor is a way to guarantee that all chapter members are fulfilling their responsibilities in a fair and appropriate manner-use forms provided below.
• Volunteer your service in places where you would not already be completing for another school organization for example ROTC, Educators Rising, etc.
• Always take along your Verification Form to be signed by the adult in charge. Remember that it is your responsibility to fill out the form (and not the adult's job).
