School Counselor for Students A-L
910-939-7340 ext. 6551
I am the Mom to three amazing humans. My oldest son is a contractor in Colorado, my middle child is a social worker in the Triangle Area of NC, and my youngest is training to be a chef after earning an applied math and data science degree at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (Go Heels!). I have been married for almost 27 years to my partner, who is a retired Marine. My favorite hobbies are going to the beach, reading, going on road trips, and camping, though I'm happy doing pretty much anything, as long as it's outside.
I became a school counselor because even under the best of circumstances, the teenage years are not always smooth. I wanted to work with teens to provide support and validation to their experiences. It is such a pivotal time of growth and self-discovery. I believe that all students can learn and succeed under the right conditions. We must support social and emotional growth, as much as we do their academic growth to create those conditions.
Every day I am inspired by my students! Whether they are working hard to make it through a tough life circumstance or working hard to balance multiple AP classes and extra-curricular activities, they remind me that I too should never stop striving to reach my next goal. Though I earned my Master's Degree in School Counseling in 2011, I continue to study the ever-changing issues our students face, as well as best practices in School Counseling. I earned a Post-Master's Certificate in College Counseling in 2018 so that I can better help our students navigate the college admissions process, and am currently working on an online teaching certificate.
It is my goal to prepare and help my students to find a career that is as interesting and rewarding as mine is! I am excited to go to work every single day and am blessed that I get to work with the incredible students and staff at Lejeune High School.
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor - North Carolina
Certified Clinical Military Counselor
This is my 11th year as a School Counselor in North Carolina, and I am very excited to join the Devil Pup family!
I completed my undergraduate degree at NC State University and moved on to complete my Master's Degree in Counselor Education at East Carolina University. My career started at the Elementary level and I spent the last 6 years working with High Schoolers. In addition to being a School Counselor, I am also a licensed mental health clinician with a special interest in military families as well as perinatal mental health.
It is rather unusual for this area, but I am a Jacksonville native and have lived here most of my life! I graduated from White Oak High School, and later went on to work there as a School Counselor. My husband and I have been married for 8 years and I am a mom to a house full of rowdy boys. On the weekends you will usually find us on a ball field, watching movies, or traveling. I love animals and our family has 3 dogs, a horse, several fish, and most recently, a ball python.
I prefer to use a systems approach to counseling and work to help students see themselves through a global lense. Throughout high school, we will work together to set goals and take action steps to prepare for life beyond graduation.
