Back to School Information

Absences: Please phone the office on the day your child is absent, email DS.attendance@dodea.edu, or send in a note prior to the absence. After an absence, students are expected to bring a note from their parent/guardian stating the date and reason for the absence.

Lunch/Snack:  Students may bring in a healthy snack from home as we will have snack time every day. Right now, I am planning on having snack at the end of the day however I will play this by ear as our lunch time is later this school year and we may need to have a snack in the morning as well.   Please make sure students bring in a water bottle each day. They will be able to refill throughout the day if needed.

All students must pack their lunch as we do not serve hot lunches here at school.

Organization: We will be using a red folder that will go home daily. Please be sure to check for this each day and send back to school the following day.

Homework: Students will be coming home with book baggies to practice reading at home. They should also be practicing their sight words. (Please note that if you are new to our classroom, it may take a week or two before these things come home)   Book baggies will not start to come home until a few weeks after we have started school.

Communication:

If you need to contact me please send me an email or send in a note. Please place all notes in the red folder!

I also have a class webpage that will be updated on a weekly basis. Please bookmark the page and check it out often. I will post many important things to the website!  https://sites.google.com/student.dodea.edu/kinderlamoureux/home

Classroom Parties:

We will have two parties this year. One before winter break in December and one at the end of the year. I will send out a food sign up link before each party for anyone who wishes to bring something in.

*New this year*  We will not be celebrating birthdays with snacks in class. You may however choose to send in a small goodie bag for each student that will be sent home in their backpacks at the end of the day. We will of course sing to your child, and I will have a small gift for them.

Extras:

Please fill out this Google Form for me so that I can keep contact information easily accessible. https://forms.gle/auMBCGA5khjkuEgaA

*New this year*  Be sure to have looked at the DoDEA Student Dress Code as we will be following it.

During the first two weeks of school I will be completing some quick assessments with your child to determine letter identification and letter sound knowledge, reading level (if your child is already reading), and some basic math skills. Please be patient with me while I complete these assessments as they are all done one-on-one with each child. Once assessments are complete, differentiation will begin within all subject areas.

I am looking forward to working with your child this year and helping him/her become lifelong learners!  If you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, I do ask that you bring them to my attention so that we can address them as a team.

Thank you,

Mrs. Lamoureux

Leaving a high-flying job in consulting, Angela Lee Duckworth took a job teaching math to seventh graders in a New York public school. She quickly realized that IQ wasn't the only thing separating the successful students from those who struggled. Here, she explains her theory of "grit" as a predictor of success.
