MakerSpace Activity for K-2: Build a Treasure Ship
[This is an outdoor activity, so it is weather permitting. If the weather is bad, we will have an alternative activity]
For this activity, students will design and build a boat. Then they add treasure (coins, bolts, or nuts) as weights one at a time until the boat sinks. Next, they will count the number of coins or objects their boat held. They will keep redesigning their boats to see if they can increase the load it can carry. The boat that held the most treasure wins.
MakerSpace Activity for 3-5: Make an Animal
For this activity, students need to pick a land or water-based habitat. Then they will create an organism that lives in the ecosystem, and they need to explain 2 to 3 adaptations the organism has to fit into its environments. They may choose from a variety of medium to create their animal.
