As technology is utilized in the educational realm, it becomes increasingly necessary for teachers to managing content digitally. This is why DoDEA has implemented Schoology in their schools worldwide. Schoology is what is known as a learning management system (LMS), which serves two purposes for teachers:
to get digital content TO students
to get digital content FROM students.
The main purposes for which teachers use Schoology are reminders, making content available ‘24/7’ to students, digital submission of assignments, and discussion board activities, which allow for critical thinking about and engagement with course content. Schoology has helped students who must miss class due to athletic or student activities to stay caught up with their class work. Students can access Schoology through an Internet browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari) or a smartphone or tablet app. (NOTE: Internet Explorer occasionally will not display Schoology properly.)
Students login to Schoology using their Google Apps username and password.
To learn more about Schoology, it is highly recommended that you (and teachers) visit the Schoology Orientation course.
Schoology is also being used extensively for CCRS professional learning throughout DoDEA, including grade-level or content-specific groups. A list of access codes can be obtained by clicking here.
