Fantasy Past or present fiction with magical or supernatural components
Historical Fiction Set in the non-recent "past", as determined by the teacher
Science Fiction Anything with futuristic non-magical components, including apocalyptic lit, steampunk, and dystopia
Realistic/Contemporary Anything set in modern day or very recent years, as determined by the teacher
Romance Contemporary romance YA novels are realistic fiction that take place during (more-or-less) the time frame in which the book is being published that include a love story as a main focus of the plot.
Book with a Movie Parents must approve of both the book and the movie, based on ratings or content
Modern Day Version Book must be a parody, remake, or a story based upon an archetype, such as a fairy-tale, fable Biblical story, or Greek myth
