Students must bring their Chromebooks every day, fully charged and in their case. Many learning activities require their computer. We have a lot to do every day; when a student misses assignments and learning because of a missing computer, it will affect their grade and many activities are "live" and cannot be "made up" later.
Headphones are required daily. Parents must provide a pair of functioning headphones for their child to keep at school.
Tuesday Folders - Blue folders go home every Tuesday with important information and papers. Check your child’s backpack on Tuesday evening, review the contents, sign the “parent form,” and keep completed work at home. This is part of your child's homework grade.
Snacks and Drinks - Students may bring a healthy snack (e.g., cheese sticks, grapes, crackers, vegetables). Please avoid candy, messy items, or full lunch-style meals. Absolutely no sugary drinks, sodas, or colored drinks are allowed in the classroom. Only water is allowed in the classroom.
For any transportation change, please notify the office to ensure someone received the message. Once the school day starts, I rarely have the opportunity to check email.

Please log in weekly to monitor your child's progress.
How to log in:
Log into ASPEN as a parent using the login in you were given when you registered your child. The link is:
https://dodeasis.myfollett.com/aspen/logon.do
OR
With your child, log into Classlink on their school Chromebook, using your child's email and password (written in the first page of their agenda and in their blue "Tuesday" folder).
Then, select "SIS" and login to access Aspen.
Please note that I will be maintaining Aspen in a base ten format for grades- as much as possible. This means, if your child received an 7/8 on an assignment, I will calculate that grade and round up if necessary. That would equate to an 88%. When I enter the grade into Aspen, I will enter 8.8/10 or 88/100. Let me know if you have any questions.
Writing: Students are learning to write proper paragraphs including a topic sentence, 3 details sentences, and a closing sentence.
Spelling: Students will write their weekly spelling words in their Student Journal. They will normally have eight spelling words at a time, and the list will last for about one week, but sometimes longer.
Math: We are working on Place Value up to one million. Students must recognize that the value of a digit changes depending on it's place within a number (one's, ten's, hundred's, etc.)
Social Studies: Students will identify the four areas of Social Science.
Math Homework: None. Practice books are available for parents who want to work with extra with their child.
Reading: Students need to read at least 20 minutes every night.
Reading Logs: Students will bring their reading logs home on August 25th. They must write how many pages they read (for at least 20 minutes) AND a parent must initial their nightly log.
