How can solving the lack of education and illiteracy in women throughout rural India alleviate the overpopulation problem India faces, due to high birth rates?
This study investigated how increasing the female literacy rate in India could help reduce its high pregnancy rate and lessen India's overpopulation issues. The researchers used a case study methodology to investigate various angles of the problem and then concluded with several recommendations about how to best impliment increased women's education.
The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals or UN SDGs were created as a "call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet" (UN, n.d.). The 17 goals were created with targets and deadlines to be met by all the countries of the world in an attempt to provide a rich, yet sustainable life for everyone.
Goal #4: Quality Education, looks specifically at providing every child with an education that gives them the skills to succeed in life. This goal also targets those who have a more difficult time achieving education due to their gender, race, or ethnicity. Those who receive a quality education are more likely to escape poverty and live a more fulfilling life. By 2030, the UN hopes for equal access for male and female students, giving all youth access to a quality education, and providing developing nations with the resources they need to meet these objectives (UN, n.d.). The Covid 19 pandemic has limited progress with this cause and in some areas even reversed it.
