REACH Course Syllabus

2025-26

Course Objective:

This class is designed to promote academic, social/emotional, and career awareness. The focus will be on motivating learners to challenge themselves. In this course, students will learn about and prepare for successful transition into middle school and life after school.

Classroom Rules:

The classroom should foster a positive and respectful learning environment. When you enter the classroom the expectation is that you will be kind, respectful, and follow classroom directions. Everyone in the room has important input to share, and it is crucial that we are considerate of all ideas, even if they differ from our own.

Expectations/ Grading:

REACH is graded pass/ fail. This class is designed to be a low-stress format to help guide students to challenge themselves both inside and outside of the classroom. Students must complete one Career Education & Work (CEW) artifact per trimester for their career portfolio as well as submit a signed course selection card to receive a passing grade.

Supplies:

Students should bring their laptop, earbuds, a pencil/ pen and a smile :) [if you can] to class each day we meet.

Classroom Rules:

At East and in our classroom, the expectation is that everyone will make safe, respectful, and responsible choices that support a positive and inclusive learning environment. We will embody our MSE Bear Essentials as classroom and school expectations.

Expectations/ Grading:

REACH will be graded as pass/fail.

In order to receive a passing grade for the first trimester, a student must participate in class discussions and activities, as well as complete two required career explorations/artifacts as identified on the course schedule.

In order to receive a passing grade for the second trimester, a student must: participate in class discussions and activities; complete two required career explorations/artifacts as identified on the course schedule; and return their signed course selection card.

In order to receive a passing grade for the third trimester, a student must: participate in class discussions and activities; complete two required career explorations/artifacts as identified on the course schedule; and complete a postsecondary plan.

In order to receive a passing grade for the year, all required career explorations/artifacts, a signed course selection card, and a postsecondary plan must be submitted. In other words, if you earn a failing grade for a trimester and do not complete the required activities, you will also receive a failing grade for the year. However, late work will be accepted. As a result, it is possible to fail a trimester and still receive a passing grade for the year.

All required career exploration/artifacts and the postsecondary plan will be completed in class.

We will not have homework in REACH, but if you miss a class, you will be responsible for making up missed assignments.

Supplies:

Students should bring a pencil/pen, their laptop, earbuds/headphones and a respectful attitude to class each time that we meet.
