The purpose of this site is to help parents better understand the new math program for students in grades 1 through 5 and provide suggestions for supporting students at home. While we may not address every question that has come to mind, we hope you can find some clarity for BASD's choice to implement the Eureka Math Program.
The National Common Core and PA Core Standards call for conceptual understanding of key concepts, such as place value and multiplication. Students must be able to access concepts from a number of perspectives in order to see math as more than a set of mnemonics or discrete procedures. The standards also call for students to use math in situations that require mathematical knowledge. Correctly applying mathematical knowledge depends on students having a solid conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.
There are many Eureka Math parent resources available through the Great Minds website. In order to access the resources, parents must create an account on the Great Minds website and "shop" for free documents. Click on the Eureka Math icon above to access the Great Minds website.
While users will be prompted to "purchase" a resource, there is no actual charge for items.
