Overview: As I researched topics for my first science research project, I came across some journal articles about breast cancer, specifically the ras homolog gene family protein (RhoB). I learned that it has been proven to play a role in metastasis, but there hasn't been a lot of research done on the protein. I reached out to my mentor, Dr. Sandra Pagano, who was studying RhoB, to be a part of her project. My mentor and I planned to study the role of a protein, RhoB, in human breast cancer cell invasion. We hypothesized that if RhoB expression is silenced, breast cancer metastasis would be contained. We planned to test this using Western blotting, Boyden chamber assays, and immunofluorescence.Â
