Women In Tech

*Unfortunately, Women in Tech Will Not Be Running During the 2022-2023 School Year*

What Goes On

Woman in Tech is a club sponsored by Johnson Controls. It is a collaborative program that aims to inspire, educate, and encourage young women to advance their education and careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). Hundreds of young women have participated in the program from Oakmont, as well as Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, Narragansett Regional High School, Gardner High School, Leominster Center for Technical Education Innovation, and Quabbin Regional High School. Last year, the Sizer School even joined the program. Many of the WIT alumni have gone on to careers in the field of Engineering and Technology and WIT chapters have been established worldwide and are expanding. Johnson Controls has hired WIT alumni and has offered internships and summer employment to current and past WIT participants. The program increases positive outcomes including work-based learning experiences for young women in non-traditional career pathways, collaboration among diverse school systems, and communication between the private and public sectors.

When does Woman in Tech Meet?

The program is very demanding, and students are expected to attend two sessions each month while balancing their schoolwork and meeting the company deadlines for the duration of the program, which runs from September through mid-April.

Unfortunately, because of COVID, we were not able to run the program this year but are certainly hoping to get it up and running again next year.

How To Join

Students that participate in Woman In Tech must have a strong academic background and must go through an application and interview process to join and you need to have previously taken a tech class.
