I attended the Let in the Light Celebration during an H block. I enjoyed candle dipping and paper tree making. I appreciated that this enrichment event celebrated all the winter holidays. One of my favorite events I attended was a Haitian dance workshop. It was cool to connect cultures through dance and song. I also attended the Global Summit at the Cormier Youth Center. The theme was preserving language and culture. The day-long event included Hawaiian lei making, henna art, rock painting (I made a turtle), and a salsa dance class which I thoroughly enjoyed because I dance!
During Junior year I helped build the Global Pathways scarecrow for the ACE Scarecrow Festival and participated in many of the Global Leadership Board Meetings. I collaborated with my peers on the board to plan a workshop for the Global Summit. We brainstormed around the theme of the summit which was sustainable cities and communities. Our final idea involved crafting a miniature building with a green roof that would replace a normal building in a city. Although I could not attend the summit this year, I still enjoyed participating in the planning process.
Like the year prior, I helped construct the Global Pathways scarecrow for the ACE Scarecrow Festival. I attended a Global Leadership Board Meeting to help draft ideas for the scarecrow. My peers and I came up with plans for the theme of "When I grow up" which included a scientist, astronaut, and an explorer (which we ended up building)! Then, I attended another H-block to start building the scarecrow. I helped form the base by stuffing a shirt and pants. I also enjoyed attending the Let in the Light Celebration. I participated in paper lantern making and New Year's resolution stars which we hung up. I also attended the Global Summit at Old Town Hall. This year's theme was life on land and life under water. I enjoyed making sushi, coloring a mural, going on a riveting scavenger hunt downtown, and participating in the learning and activity about loons.
Throughout my time in high school, I have contributed to my global path by participating in BBYO. BBYO is the leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement worldwide. I have had the privilege of serving on New England BBYO's Regional Board my senior year as President and my Junior year as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications. BBYO has allowed me to make connections with peers from around the world, challenged me to embrace new approaches, and expand my comfort zone. Important values to BBYO that align with my global path are community service, philanthropy, and inter-faith relations. It is through these core principles that I have walked my global path.
