The primary livelihood of the Malaueg people comes from farming. They cultivate lowland rice and corn as their main crops. Additionally, they raise tobacco as a cash crop on a foothill west of Piat on the Matalag River near the southeast border of Kalinga-Apayao province. This practice not only provides them with a source of income but also draws Ibanags from the East.
The craftsmanship of the Malaueg Tribe is deeply rooted in their cultural heritage and reflects their close connection with nature. One of the most notable examples of their craftsmanship is the Malaueg Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
