Trigo run was a project that dated back to January 2022, early in the year I decided I would like to create a difficult platforming game. After a few weeks I had a basic start for the game, In early February visual changes began to happen, the theme was drawn out to be a neon platforming game...
In late February, Specifically February 28th. The official updates page on the Playcanvas forums was created (https://forum.playcanvas.com/t/trigo-run-official-updates-page/24562)
In which I named the game "Trigo Run"
Updates continued to be provided which included new levels and visual changes, including a change to a more detailed skybox. About 2 weeks after the forums page was created the first "MAJOR" update released, Multiplayer, You could now play with your friends on a dedicated server, included a chatbox to talk to your friends. This update was 1.12. Only about 1 week after that the 2nd major update released 1.13, the skins update... Cosmetic changes could now be made to the player... including overlays, trails, and more..
With the now leaked level 10 being in development the game work started to slow
small updates began to crowd the feed as I had to balance school, and game dev... making major progress tedious and difficult.
some of the small updates included-
-More skins
-new soundtrack
-Bugfixing
-Level tweaks
-Minigame maps for multiplayer
Even 1.15 was a small update, only including more cosmetic options and UI changes
April 18, 2022... I made a massive promise for 1.16, I began to rack up hype, because if I went through with this update it would be the biggest one yet.. I promised the following, Level 10, 2x the amount of Cosmetics, fixing the major death bug, option to go to next level when finishing a level, and the command hub.
these would be massive changes and improvements, but I didn't have the time to work on it, release dates kept getting pushed back further and further
the game started to go in a death spiral as people became inpatient and didn't want to wait...
to cover for the massive mispromise i crunched time to make 3x the amount of skins to keep them occupied, i added visual settings, fixed some bugs, and seperated the death and win screens.... This update was 1.15.7... to avoid further promising on massive scales i made the feedback form, a google form where you could submit skin ideas and feature requests... a very simple concept that helped quite a bit,
The biggest thing that trigo run has done yet, is getting accepted on Speedrun.com, It took Months of messaging the speedrun.com team back and forth, but FINALLY.. it was on there (https://www.speedrun.com/trigo_run) But there wasn't enough support on the game at that time, so the speedrun.com page remained vacant except for a few record holders and breakers here & there, for all that work i felt like it wasn't worth it
Soon i had the idea to create a storyline for the game, with different worlds to house future levels.. soon the storyline was written with 6 main worlds, World 0, Simulation, Rift Void, Ice Cliffs, Volcanic Plains, And Finale
these worlds were the backbone for the future levels, as I began to work on the storyline and worlds I just stopped... I took a big vacation over the summer as I didn't really want to work then, the game continued to lose popularity... it was dying, until September,
September I finally began to continue work on the project... working on a MASSIVE visual update that would improve the level visuals by a TON level 1, cave. Level 2, forest. Level 3, Abandoned oil rig. Level 4, Desert. Level 5, Ice. Level 6, Snow. Level 7, Ice cave. Level 8, Magma. Level 9, deserted. Level 10, Corrupted
each level is decorated with tons of detail and work to fit the game better, it also made things more interesting so it didn't look like it was made by a 14 years old kid.
This is a basic history of Trigo Run development and progress, after the release on steam I will write some more history
