As a class, most sixth graders read the book Seedfolks, by Paul Fleischman. The book is about a community that came together to create something major. They took a trashy lot and turned it into an amazing garden. Seedfolks is all about the perspectives of each person, and how they come together.
In Seedfolks, the people came together to turn a trashy lot into a beautiful garden. The trash affected their community, making it stinky, depressing, and not nice to be in. So people came together. At PBMS, we strive to make a good impact on our community by doing community service hours, and community service projects in 8th grade.
We PBMS students are part of an overall community. Whether we help or hinder the process of making Pacific Beach a cleaner environment is a conscious choice. In Seedfolks, the community finally comes together to improve everybody's lives. Some people in the story hindered the processes of the garden growing and being a healthy, and safe environment, while others were skeptical of the entire project. The same thing happened to us here at PBMS. Some students don't care about the recycling rules, and just use the recycling bins as as another trash can. This is against the point of adding recycling bins to our campus
