I have a few different writings that I would like to share in my portfolio
Me and Brian have gone through many similar problems. However, the problems we faced were still different from each other. like how we both have had our own problems with nature. While Brian met a bear, I had to help my cats with fleas. We have both had a problem with mosquitos, nature, and bad weather. These problems all have some similarities and differences.
In the book Hatchet, Gary Paulsen says that there were “Thick swarming hordes of mosquitoes that flocked to his body.” I have never been bitten that badly but I have been bitten before. Paulsen also says that his eyes were almost shut from the number of bites he gets. I too have also been bitten by mosquitos. The most bites I had at one time were anywhere between six and eight bites, so I can only imagine the itching brian went through.
We have also had a problem with different animals. Paulsen says that Brian runs into a bear while picking some berries. However the bear only looked at him and didn’t attack him, so it wasn’t that much of a problem. I had a problem when my two cats and dog had fleas. We didn’t have that much of a problem when cleaning the fleas off our dog, but our cats were way harder because they don't like water. It took both of our parents to hold the cats down, so it took around forty minutes to clean them both!
Brian and I have also experienced bad weather. Brian had to try and survive a tornado around half way through being stranded in Canada. Paulsen says that the tornado put Brian far back in progress because it wrecked his pond and shelter. Meanwhile my family and I got hit by bad snowy weather. The storm was not too bad but it made my family's house lose power and AC. Because of this, we had to go about eight miles south to my grandparents house for two days.
Me and Brian have both had very similar and different problems in our lives. However the most important similarities we both share are that we are both courageous, adventurous and we both never give up.
The U.S has long been a sort of what some call a “War Country” which doesn’t feel right, but yet it does. According to Steve Ballmer at Usafacts the U.S is a military power that pours more than ¾ of a trillion dollars a year on its military. This is crazy, especially when compared to Russia, America's biggest enemy and threat which only spends less than ¾ of 100 billion dollars a year on its own military. So military spending should at least be lowered for the benefit of the country and the people. I believe the U.S could go from “War Country” to a caring country and at least spend less on the military and more on the people and prioritize in becoming a more peaceful nation, Benefiting the education system, the current state of poverty, and better services to protect the country and its people.
The United States as I said is very powerful and threatening to most of the world, if not all, however this could change and could strengthen itself, the people, and partners. The U.S could aid other countries that are struggling and become a leader of the world, not in an evil way, but an inspirational way. The U.S, however should not only be caring for its partners, not that it's a bad thing, but should also be caring for itself. Poverty in the U.S is getting better, but could speed up. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, in 2023 around 36.8 million people in the U.S were in poverty, which is more than 1/10 of the total U.S population. If the U.S spent just a bit more in poverty, we could lower the number of people in poverty extremely quickly and give everyone a chance to succeed in life.
According to the University of Kansas the U.S has a relatively good education system, and could even have been the best in the world, However the U.S Education system is struggling to get students to grow more in science and math, especially math. Science and math are some of the most essential classes a student can take, especially math which is used in almost every class you can think of. I take math in school, like all students, and I always see someone struggling on something, or sometimes I’ll see someone that has a lot left to catch up on. So if the U.S could focus more on poverty and education, the U.S could become a successful country with some of the highest quality of life in the world.
Introduction :
The Lochness monster, a mythilogical creature that some believe to be the death of many in the lake of Loch Ness in the Scottish highlands, multiple people have “seen” Nessie in this dark and deep lake, but what if it wasn't Nessie, what if all this controvercy was from the Tricephelocentidentaltriglottristomatocentmyalleucopoliolintioussexcornusquadbranchialduocaudmillisternalite, or the Tricephelosternalite. A three headed creature with a ton of lore to unpack. The intelligence of it is unknown. However it is undecided if it is harmful or not, but what if it is harmful, what if it is not? The year is 1993, right at the beginning of August in Edinburgh Scotland. A man by the name of Callum is heading out for his usual morning tea, but not after he drops off his kids, Donald and Lucy, at the local primary school. Callum and his loving wife Masie were quite rich at their time. Callum owned a local bakery by the name “The Bread Basket of Edinburgh”, meanwhile the wife worked a full time job as a teacher at “Heriot-Watt University.” Now it may sound like a dream at first. Between the money and the respect they receive as higher ups, it seems like a dream come true, however it is quite tiring spending a full 14 hours a day placing and making the most recent crumpet order delivered at precisely 4:26 to meet the on time policy for every order, hundreds of times a day ;Perhaps maybe the teacher gets it better? A little bit, just some two hour classes, and stuff.
Chapter I
A Chance for a Needed Break
Callum was doing his usual daily routine, he had just finished assigning the daily job duties to all his workers. When he got to his office, he decided to go ahead and make himself a nice loaf of bread. He had forgotten his fried eggs and toast earlier that morning, so he was starving that morning. He was off to make him some bread when one of his co-workers came up to him.
“Good morning my good sir,” it was Bill. Bill was one of Callums co-workers who often greeted him in the morning. Bill always had some sort of question for him, yesterday he asked him if he was sick at all. I know, random, but Bill was like that, so Callum knew what to expect from him. "Hey sir, I have a question,” he said, “Ask away, once again!” Callum said. “Have you heard about it?” “What do you mean it?” Callum asked, confused. Bill responded with “You know, it?” Bill said. “I have no idea what you're talking about? What is this it you speak of?” Callum asked, confused. Bill said “The free vacation to Loch Ness lake in the Scottish highlands! Well I say free, but you just need to buy a ticket for only £10 ($13.27)!” Callum pondered about this. “This might be a good idea, maybe even a great idea!” He thought. Then he remembered this could be a waste of £10, but then he remembered it's just ten pounds, even if he doesn’t win, it isn't a huge loss of money. Plus if he did win, he could finally take a break from the stressful life that is Edinburgh.
”Where can I get a ticket?” Callum asked. “Just go to the supermarket down the road, they’ve got plenty!” Bill said. “I'll check it out,” Callum said. “Oh and here's a little tip for you my friend,” he said as he pulled out a £20 banknote and a £5 banknote and handed it to Bill. “Thanks my good sir,” Bill said as he walked off out of the office.
“This is my chance,” Callum picked up his phone and dialed his wife, Masies number.
