After Mr. Hicks taught us the basics we created a house (mostly using the rectangle tool). We turned a couple blocks into this! A nice but simple House. The steps needed to make this were quite simple. First we had to see if SketchUp for schools was installed on the computer. Then we needed to make the base, as usual, by using the rectangle tool. After that we created the walls, then roof, and then the chimney. Then that we needed to make the windows on another rectangle by duplicating the wall, or "Ctrl C" and drag. after you make the window you have to make it a component, so that all of the different windows you make are the EXACT same. And then once all of the windows are the same and are placed in the right area you can use "B" for the bucket tool. Lastly after painting you make the whole house a group including the windows, and you have completed your simple house!
This was basically my first model, because the other model I made was just a warm up. This model was really fun to make but i'm not sure if it would be able to be 3D'ed, as the middle of the part would be difficult for the machine to make. I mostly made this model just for fun, I was focusing on seeing what I can make first, then later on I will make a 3rd model, which will hopefully be able to be 3D'ed. In order to make the model look its best before being 3D'ed you have to use an app called "Blender"
This is my unpainted version, in order to make this I had to use the pentagon tool, in order to make the base. We could change how many sides we have just by typing "S (and) #", with no spaces. Then after making the base I used the "Line" tool. I made random lines to create a random pattern, which will be pulled. I used the "push/Pull" tool to push up some of the lined areas. After that we could use the "offset" tool to make a line within the line. We would then use the push tool to make a hole inside of the block. Lastly once the model is finished we would get the "bucket" tool to create different colors all over the model.
This is my painted version of my first ever complete 3D model. A couple things Mr. Hicks taught us were, a 3D printer can NOT print a 90 degree angle (for some reason), only one color will be used if we wanted to 3D print it, and that we would get our prints back at the end of next year. This is because the 6th graders next year will have to have some examples of 3D printing. 🙄
