On this page I will make a house in SketchUp and then I will animate it to spin in Blender. After this project we will make a modern art sculpture in SketchUp and put it into Blender so we can enhance the appearance.
SketchUp is a free app that allows you to make a 3D representation of whatever you want.
In SketchUp there is a push and pull tool which can be used to pull 2D shapes into 3D shapes. You can also enter exact dimensions by just typing number while using the push tool and it will make the shape that exact size. In the dimensions the symbol ' is used to represent feet and " is used to represent inches.
Before we started with our houses we did a cube practice so we could get used to SketchUp and its tools. It was easy to make the cubes but it was difficult to stack the cubes on each other.
In SkecthUp different tools have different shortcuts which is a letter and these shortcuts help you work faster and more efficient since you don't have to manually click on the tools.
To construct my house I used the tools push/pull, line, follow me, rectangle, offset and others.
This is the house I created in SketchUp. It was difficult to make the heart shaped window and took me a long time to finally get it looking decent. Also the diamond window looks like it took a long time to make, but it was pretty easy since the whole window is pretty symmetrical.

My house before I painted it was downloaded without transparency while my painted house was downloaded with transparency.
To texture our house we need to switch out the colors for textures and it is really easy since I colored all of the different parts with different colors. This allows me to use Ctrl+Click while using the Paint Bucket tool so all parts of the same color changes to the texture I'm using.
SketchUp comes with textures already downloaded but if you want another type of texture you can go to the Warehouse which has lots of different textures you can download and use. To find good quality you need to find a texture witha small download size but not to small and you can also preview the material.

This is a closer look at my house in SketchUp.
After we are done with SketchUp we are going to work with blender which is a free program to make, design and animate 3D sculptures. To import our houses to SketchUp we need to export our SketchUp file as a FBX then we go to our file explorer to extract the file from the FBX and then we import into Blender.
In blender we will keyframe or animate our house to spin a full 360 degrees.
To keyframe the house in Blender we move the house by clicking, holding, and dragging the click on the red outlined Y Rotation. After you find a nice location for the house you click on the diamondand the location gets keyframed. Rotate the house again and reapeat the process to animate the house. The blue circled object shows you the keyframes for the object you have clicked.

Sculpture
In this project we design a sculpture in SketchUp then we import it to Blender to render, and animate it.
This is the sculpture I came up with in Sketchup. It took me hours to fully complete this model because it has hundreds of small details most people cant even see.
These are the SketchUp pictures of my model painted. It took a while to paint the whole model expecially the very small details.
To keyframe the camera it is the same thing as the models but instead you have the camera selected and you move the camera NOT the models.
And these are the pictures after my sculpture was fully detailed, modified, and rendered in Blender. I had some problems with making the glow for the color to just the right amount. Also I had to edit my model in SketchUp multiple times since two different parts of my model are the same color meaning that the glow would be where I didnt want it to.
