Our project is about preserving traditional agriculture, dried persimmon production methods, and understanding Weiweijia Persimmon Tourist Farm. The main reason that we wanted to start this project is because of how fascinating it is that Hsinchu, despite its reputation as Taiwan's smart city, still has farms that are slowly but surely developing at their own pace during this technological era. The farm not only sells their own crop goods, but it also offers DIY classes, such as persimmon dyeing. Surprisingly, the farm has even developed its own skin care products, showing how a persimmon farm can diversify its products. Not to mention, the farm is located in Xinpu, Hsinchu, which is a rural town and can be inconvenient to reach. However, despite the inconvenience, tourists from around the country and even visitors from Korea and Japan visit Wei Wei Jia Persimmon Tourist Farm to experience making dried persimmon by themselves. We were amazed by these discoveries. We learned that persimmons are not just a type of fruit, but it is also a part of Taiwanese culture and a way of life in Xinpu. We also interviewed the Wei Wei Jia Persimmon Tourist Farm's owner and gained an understanding of the challenges the farm's business faced in the age of modern technology. We are excited to present to you what we have learned in the past few months.
