BSLA Reading Programme:
The Teachers in Years 7 and 8 are currently engaging in learning about the Better Start Literacy Programme through the University of Canterbury.
The BSLA programme is currently used in Years 1-6 and we are seeing some fantastic results come from students growth in their literacy. The current Year 7 students will continue on their BSLA journey from last year, with the Year 8 students being introduced to it this year.
Teacher training for those who have not already been trained will begin in Term 1, with the BSLA programme being implemented once they are far enough in their journey. More information on this to come.
In the meantime, students in Years 7 & 8 will be completing a Novel Study using the BSLA format. Each class will be reading the following novels:
S1: Skellig by David Almond
S2: Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
S3: Children of the Rush by James Russell
S4: Wonder by R.J. Palacio
S5: The Boy At the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf
S6: Millions by Frank Cottrell-Boyce
Reading progressions for your child can be found on Hero
All students will have a range of progressions based on their individual needs. Progressions will be 'live', being assigned and marked off as they are taught by your child's teacher. Please check your child's Hero to view these as they become available.
